2'-Deoxynucleosides are modified nucleosides that are essential building blocks of the DNA molecule. They are similar to ribonucleosides (or simply nucleosides), but differ in that they contain a hydrogen atom instead of a hydroxyl group at the 2' position of the ribose sugar. This chemical modification makes the sugar moiety of 2'-deoxynucleosides more stable than that of ribonucleosides.
